It’s about time.
A recurring theme with my clients is: "I want to feel valued. I want to feel invested in. I want to feel like my employer wants me here for the long term." This is being echoed from executive leaders to mid level managers and to those just starting out.
The idea of belonging is an important one. So how are employers responding?
Based on my research, employers are providing additional benefits (ie massage or an Amazon gift card) to acknowledge their employees. The thought is there, there is a level of recognition but where is the appreciation?
Here lies an important distinction: recognition (you did a great job at X) and appreciation (you are great).
The cards and massages are nice tokens of recognition but they are not communicating any sense of longevity, appreciation or value beyond a successfully completed task.
What then is a more effective way to show these employees that you do want them around, you see a future pathway for them and you are invested in their growth and development?
Coaching. For everyone.
Coaching is the fastest way to improve yourself and your teams personally & professionally. The faster your people develop, the bigger results your company will yield. Supporting everyone from this level is an untapped way to highlighting and driving their full potential, which up until now has been secured exclusively for executives. Imagine what becomes possible.
Next time you're considering how to show your appreciation for your team, consider an investment in both their and your futures.
